Born in the coal mining town of Managuru in Southern India, Ravi always dreamt of becoming a truck driver. His childhood heroes were the tough men in the neighbourhood, who drove mighty mining trucks and he aspired to become the best truck driver in town.
Ten years ago, his dream came true when he got a job as a Volvo tipper driver, to transport overburden in a coal mine. This was the turning point. Over the years, he got the opportunity to drive a range of Volvo tippers from FM9 340 to FMX 440. Since the beginning of 2015, Ravi has been driving the Volvo FMX I-Shift and he says, “Being powerful, efficient and comfortable, it’s the best mining tipper ever to drive in the tough conditions of Indian open cast mines. Above all, it’s the safest truck that gives me the confidence of effortless driving during day or night.”
Ravi’s partnership with his Volvo FMX I-Shift brought out the best in him, when he won the India Fuelwatch competition in 2015, followed by winning the Off-road Asia Pacific Fuelwatch in Thailand the same year.
“Earlier, I was just another driver, but now everyone knows me as an international champion. Thanks to Volvo, I achieved my dream of becoming the best driver in the town.”
